Chapter 23: The Luna's Rooms

The door swung open on a room that smelled of lavender and clean linen.

The Garland women had been here.

Every trace of silk and perfume was gone, and the windows stood open to the cold.

A quilt of tiny bees lay across a bed the size of a boat.

Someone had set a candle in every sill.

"Oh," I said, and my voice cracked.

Eamon shut the door behind us and put his back to it.

I turned the key.

It was the second time I had turned a key on the inside of a room with him.

It felt nothing like the first.

"Come here," I said.

He crossed the floor in three strides and stopped inches from me.

His hands hovered at my shoulders, and he waited.

I took the green shawl off and folded it over a chair.

I kissed him.

It started slow and went hungry.

The bond was open between us now, and I could feel the exact shape of how much he wanted me.

He backed me against the bedpost and I pulled his shirt up over his head, careful of the shoulder.

I undid his belt.

He undid every button of my blouse, one at a time, with fingers that were not steady.
