Chapter 9: Her Choice

His thumb moved once across the silver scar on my wrist, and I felt it in my knees.

"Rhiannon," Soren said.

"Don't talk," I said. "Not yet."

I put my free hand flat on his chest and felt his heart slamming under it.

He kissed me.

He did it slowly at first, with his mouth barely touching mine, and I made a sound I did not know I could make.

Five years of marriage, and no one had ever kissed me that slowly.

I fisted my hand in his shirt and pulled him down, and the slow part ended.

He backed me against the stone parapet, and his hands came up into my hair, and he kissed me harder, with his teeth and then his tongue.

I opened for him at once.

I heard him growl low in his chest, a Lycan sound, and I shivered against him.

"Inside," I said against his mouth. "Now."

"Say it again."

"Take me inside, Soren."

He lifted me.

I locked my legs around his waist and he carried me through the dark corridors of the keep, kissing my neck the whole way, and kicked his own door shut behind us.

He set me down at the foot of his bed.

I took hold of his shirt and dragged it over his head.

The bandage was gone and the burn had healed to pink, and there was a scar across his ribs and another down his arm.

I put my mouth on the one over his heart.

He drew a breath through his teeth. "You're not gentle."

"You're a Lycan prince. You can take it."

"I can," he said, rough and amused.

Then he stopped being amused.

He undid the laces down the back of my dress one at a time, and every inch of skin he uncovered, he kissed.

I stood there shaking with my eyes closed while the dress slid off my hips and pooled on the stone floor.

"Look at me," he said.

I opened my eyes.

His were fully gold, and he did not look away from me once.
