Chapter 9: Don't Touch
He stood with both hands flat on the wall.
He had been standing there for ten minutes, and she had not touched him once.
Ha-rin sat on the edge of her narrow bed in the east tower, fully dressed.
Her ankles were crossed, and she held a cup of cold tea.
The lamp burned low.
Do-gyeom faced the wall in his trousers, bare to the waist, his palms spread on the cold stone and his forehead an inch from it.
His back was a wide, scarred field of muscle, and every inch of it was tight.
"You're shaking," she said.
"Yes, Strategist."
"Why?"
"Because you're looking at me."
"I'm not even doing anything."
"That's why."
She smiled behind the rim of her cup.
She set it on the floor, stood, and walked slowly across the room until she stood behind him.
She did not touch him.
She stood close enough to feel the heat coming off his skin.
"Close your eyes," she said.
He closed them.
She took the grey sash from the bed and passed it in front of his face, and tied it behind his head, over his eyes.
His breath came faster.
"Can you see?"
"No."
"Good. Hands stay on the wall. If they come off, I stop."
"Yes."
"If you speak without my leave, I stop."
"Yes, Strategist."
"Now listen."
She walked away from him.
She heard him turn his head, following the sound, and she stopped by the bed.
She unbuttoned her coat, and the soft rasp of the cloth filled the quiet room.
She let it slide to the floor.
Then the shirt, with a whisper, and the trousers, with a small thump.
She was naked in the lamplight, with the stone floor cold on her bare feet.
She lay back on the bed and spread her knees.
