Nobody spoke.
A dozen lanterns swung in the doorway.
Every lord holding one was looking at the King of the Thorn Court, flat on his back in a heap of fur, with one wrist still tied to a ladder.
Emrys turned his head on the cloaks.
"Good evening," he said.
I stood up.
I took the two sides of my shirt in my fists and pulled them together with the confidence of a woman holding a verdict.
"My lords," I said. "You've broken a door."
Casimir's eyes were bright.
"We have found," he said, "the King and his Witness in the act that Clause Four forbids."
"Have you?"
"Under the Oak, two days ago, the King denied it. Now every lord here has seen it."
"He has lied to the Hills."
The murmur ran through the lords.
I had been dreading that sentence since the Assembly, and it ran down my back.
