Chapter 23: The Bite

I took him home, to the one-room flat on Mercer Street above the laundromat.

It was the only place in the world that had ever been mine.

The dryers hummed through the floor, and the window glowed orange from the street lamp, and my single bed stood against the wall under a patched blanket.

Rhys looked at it, and then at me.

"It's small," he said.

"It's mine."

"Then it's perfect."

He closed the door and turned the lock, and I pulled him down by his collar.

He kissed me slowly this time, with both hands in my hair.

I undid his shirt button by button, and he let me.

When I pushed it off his shoulders I put my mouth on the white crescent of my own bite.

"Mine," I said against it.

His breath shuddered.

"Yours."

He lifted my sweater over my head, and I stood in front of him in the orange light.

He kissed my collarbone, my ribs, the soft skin under my breast.

He went to his knees and pushed my jeans down my legs.

I put my hand on his head.

He parted me with his thumbs and put his mouth on my clit, and I gasped and nearly lost my balance.

"Rhys."

His tongue worked in slow circles, and then faster, and he pushed two fingers into my pussy and curled them.

"Oh, fuck."

My knees began to shake.

"Sit," he said, and he guided me onto the edge of the bed without taking his mouth away.
