Chapter 22: Co-Listed
The president's office was on the tenth floor, and at nine on Sunday morning it contained four people and a plate of untouched biscuits.
Qiu Wenhua sat behind his desk with a single typed page in front of him.
Gao stood by the window with her clipboard.
Han and Tong Yu sat side by side in the visitors' chairs, rather more rumpled than they had hoped to be.
"Three things," said Qiu. "The first. Deputy Director Lu delivered his resignation at six this morning."
"I have accepted it. The provincial commission will review the records breach independently."
"And Dr Jiang?" asked Han.
"Will complete his training at a county hospital, under supervision, after the review. He told the whole truth on Friday."
Qiu's mouth moved slightly. "I am not a harsh man, Zhiyuan. I only dislike being lied to."
"Thank you, President."
"The second. The commission telephoned at six to ask how soon they might copy a two-surgeon rule from this hospital for the whole province."
He slid the page across the desk. "I told them to ask you."
