Chapter 23: The Cell
They put Ton in the lower cells under the east wing.
The room was stone and it had one window at the top of the wall, the size of a hand.
There was a bench and a bucket and a drain in the floor.
He sat on the bench with his back to the wall and counted the hours by the light.
Two guards outside. One of them kept coughing.
He thought about Fon in the west room with a guard on the door.
He thought about the petal in Khem's hand.
He thought about Bua with a sword at a guard's throat.
They'd taken the sword off him. He'd heard the shouting through two floors.
Around the middle of the night the wall moved.
