Chapter 19: Marek's POV

Marek's POV

I had her off the hall floor before my mother's door finished closing.

Kathleen wrapped her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck, and the brooch lay forgotten in her fist against my shoulder.

"Up," she said into my mouth. "All the way up."

"Three flights."

"Then you'd better start."

I took the first flight with her mouth on my throat.

She bit me under the jaw, and I missed a step, and the whole stairwell swayed.

On the half-landing below the second floor a window looked out over the yard, with a wide painted sill the width of a bench.

I stopped there.

I did not decide to.

My legs stopped, and my hands were already shoving up her dress.

I set her down on the sill with her back against the cold glass.

"Here?" I said. My voice came out wrecked.

"Here."

She pulled her dress over her head and dropped it on the stairs.

Her skin was pale in the light from the yard, and her breasts rose and fell, and I forgot how to be slow.

I went down on one knee on the step below and put my mouth on her.

She was already wet.

She tasted of salt and steam from the car wash.

She cried out, and then clapped her own hand over her mouth and laughed behind it.

"Louder," I said against her.

"Your mother is right below us."

"My mother has slept through trucks backing up all her life."

She laughed again, helpless, and her thighs closed on my ears.

I licked her until her heels drummed my back.

When she came she did it with her head against the glass and her whole body clenching, and she was not quiet at all.

I stood.

I opened my belt with hands that shook.

She watched me, flushed and half-wild, with her knees open and her hair in her eyes.

I took her hips and pulled her to the edge of the sill, and I pushed into her in one slow stroke.

She was so tight and hot around me that I saw white.

"Marek," she said. "Marek, oh, God."
