Tae-hwan tried to take his hand back.
Seon-ho did not let him.
"Mr. Baek," said the white suit in front.
She was a woman with a hard flat voice behind her face plate.
"That is a direct violation of the protocol."
"Then write it down."
"Inspector, he is touching an identified carrier with a bare hand."
"I can see that," said Go Hyun-seok.
He had taken off his rimless glasses and was pinching the bridge of his nose.
Without them he looked a great deal more than forty-two.
"Nobody restrains either of them," he said. "Nobody puts a hand on them. They walk to the van."
"Sir..."
"He has been touching that man for twelve days and he is standing up. Walk."
So they walked.
They went down the iron stair, past a neighbor with a bag of trash who stared.
The rain was cold.
A long white van waited with its windows blacked out.
Seon-ho sat on the bench beside Tae-hwan, still holding the hand.
