Chapter 15: The King's Bad Team
Bram tried to make the wolf king wear a knitted scarf during the pack game.
"So we can recognize you," my uncle explained.
Osric held up the red wool.
"I'll be the largest wolf on the ridge."
"That's what the other team will think too," Bram said.
Deborah took the scarf from him.
"He'd like you to attract attention while he steals the marker."
Bram looked wounded by this accurate summary.
The game was simple enough for visiting relatives to enjoy.
Two teams tried to bring a wooden marker back to their own stump.
Nobody bit, and nobody kept score past supper except Bram.
Corwin stood by the ceremonial tent holding a jeweled wolf collar.
It was meant for the woman beside the king.
Sabine had come in walking boots and was eating an apple with Deborah.
