Miles woke before I did and tried to leave the bed quietly.
The floorboard beside my wardrobe complained on his behalf.
He stopped with one foot in the air.
"I'm awake," I told him.
"I've noticed," he said.
I caught his hand before he could move away.
He sat down again and brushed his mouth over mine.
His hair had risen on one side, giving him a permanently skeptical expression.
It beat every photograph in the publicity campaign.
"You can stay for breakfast," I said.
"I was hoping that was included."
I pulled his cardigan over my nightdress while he found his shirt.
It smelled faintly of him, and the sleeves covered my hands.
He watched me roll them back.
"That fits you," he said.
"You might have to negotiate for it."
He kissed me before trying to find a suitable opening offer.
