Chapter 13: Backup

Sawyer had come in ten minutes earlier with his hair still wet and taken the far end of the booth.

That was as far from me as a booth goes.

Now he put his fork down.

"May I?" he said to Shay.

She slid her phone across the table to him.

He read the caption. Then he read the comments, every one, scrolling with one finger.

"Forty-one likes," he said. "Somebody wrote 'goals.' Somebody else wants to know what lens he used."

"He doesn't know what a lens is," I said.

Dot buttered her toast at the end of the table.

"How did he get it, honey?"

I already knew.

I'd sent the picture from the camera to my phone in the truck, so I could look at it big.

And my phone sent everything to the cloud.

"I changed my password," I said. "At Capitol Reef. At the picnic table. You watched me do it."

"I did," Sawyer said. "Can I see your settings? I won't touch anything unless you say."

I gave him my phone.

He didn't touch anything. He held it between us and let me scroll.

It took about a minute to find.
