The agent had a hand on her elbow. He let her stand there one more second.
Sadie wiped her face on her shoulder.
"Pay my bail," she whispered. "Get me a real lawyer. Then I'll tell you."
Even now.
Even in handcuffs, under Grandpa's jet, she was asking for a wish.
"No," I said.
Her mouth fell open.
"Molly, it's your wedding. Somebody could get hurt."
"Then tell the inspector. Right now. That's your only way out, Sadie. Not me."
I reached into my coat pocket.
The knight card was still there. The one I'd folded at our birthday dinner, soft as cloth now, cracked down the middle.
