Chapter 6: The Hangar

I scrolled down with my thumb.

The comments came in faster than I could read them.

Imagine stealing from your own twin.

The quiet ones are always the worst.

Somebody find where she goes to school.

Somebody already had.

A photo of our engineering building, captioned: she's in here every day lol.

Mitch took the phone gently out of my hand and turned it face down.

"Don't read them."

"They know where I study."

"I'll have somebody at your building in the morning."

"I can't walk in with a bodyguard, Mitch."

"Then I'll walk you in."

He did.

He parked in the fire lane and walked me through the front doors in a charcoal suit.

Every head in the lobby turned.

Phones came up. I heard my name whispered from three directions.

A boy from my thermodynamics class stepped in front of me.

"Hey. Homewrecker. How's it feel?"

Mitch stopped walking.

He looked at the boy.

The boy stepped aside.

My professor was waiting in her office doorway. She wasn't smiling.

"Molly. Come in. Just you."

She closed the door and handed me a letter.

It was on Granger Aviation letterhead.

The Granger Aviation Graduate Fellowship will not be awarded this year. The sponsor has withdrawn funding.

It was signed by my father.

"I'm so sorry," my professor said. "Your review was the best in the department. I called and argued. The man said it was a family decision."
