Chapter 18: The Tent

I let them in because I wanted them to see the tent.

It was a big canvas wall tent, borrowed from the parish, with a camp cot and a lantern on a pole and a hand-lettered tally board hung from the ridge.

"Eleven since you left.

"Nobody has taken them in."

"You have a Gamma," I said.

"We have a man who reads the names and takes nothing," Peter said.

"They go into the ground whole, and the pack goes thinner.

"There are wolves in the hall who can't hold a shift for an hour."

"Come home," said Tomas.

"Take the seat.

"We'll do whatever you say.
