Chapter 18: Introductions
Audrey introduced me as her sister before the singing started.
She introduced Hallie as her friend immediately afterward.
Hallie looked delighted and shook her hand again for no reason.
We'd come to a pub where people could sing badly in public.
Audrey wanted to try it.
I wanted to sit far enough from the speaker to hear myself laugh.
Hallie wanted chips before anybody borrowed her pencil.
We got a table near the little stage and ordered drinks.
Audrey looked at the list of songs beside the microphone.
Nobody had selected the appropriate one for her.
She took her time choosing.
"Will you come up with me?" she asked Hallie.
"Absolutely," Hallie said.
"I don't know whether I can sing."
"Neither do I," Audrey admitted.
I offered to hold their bags, which was useful and entirely voluntary.
