Chapter 15: Agatha Stands Up
Agatha walked down the row of winds with her oboe in one hand.
Her hoop earrings swung, and her yellow cardigan glowed under the black concert jacket.
She climbed the stage steps in her flat shoes and stopped beside me.
"I'm Agatha Finch," she said into the microphone I held out. "I've played principal oboe here for six years."
Roderick spread his hands.
"Ms. Finch is a friend of the accused. Of course she is."
"I was your temp," Agatha said.
He stopped smiling.
"Seven years ago, the summer after graduation. I answered your phone and I got you coffee, and you told me I had a future in arts administration."
A few people in the audience laughed, uncertainly.
"The day after Julius flew to Vienna, you handed me a courier envelope. You said it was from Leona. You said she was too heartbroken to send it herself."
"That is a lie," Roderick said.
