Chapter 21: Board Room
The boardroom of Harlow Holdings had a table made from a single piece of walnut and ten leather chairs.
Seven directors sat along the sides when we walked in at five to ten.
One chair on the left had Weston's name card in front of it and nobody in it.
At the head sat Marguerite, in charcoal wool, with a silver tea service at her elbow.
She did not look up.
"This is a closed session," she said to the table. "I'll ask security to remove them."
"Mrs. Harlow," said the oldest director.
It was the gray-haired man from the rehearsal dinner, the one who had put his hand over his mouth.
"Sit down, Marguerite."
"I beg your pardon."
"I have read the filing that was sent to every one of us last night."
He tapped a thick folder in front of him.
"A letter in his late father's hand.
"A sworn affidavit from a notary.
"A county record, and six years of proxy filings under a name that belongs to a woman who has never been in this room.
