Chapter 18: On Her Terms

He got as far as my bedroom door and stopped with a hand on the frame.

"Ingrid, I'm not at my best."

"I didn't ask for your best."

"What are the terms?"

I almost laughed.

I walked him backward until the backs of his knees hit my bed, and I put both hands flat on his chest and pushed.

He sat down hard.

"One," I said.

"I'm in charge. You do not move unless I say."

His eyes had gone dark, and a little of the gold had come back into them.

"Two. You tell me what you want, out loud, with words, and you don't get anything until you do."

"Yes."

"Three. This isn't an apology."

"I know."

"And it isn't forgiveness."

"I know that too."

"Good."

I pulled my sweater over my head.

His breath went out of him in a rush.

I took my glasses off and set them on the nightstand.

I stepped between his knees.

"Take off the coat," I said.

He did.

"The shirt."

He did that too, with unsteady fingers, and I watched each button give.

His chest was bare under the lamp, hard and scarred along the left ribs, and when I laid my palm there it lit.

Gold ran out from my hand over his skin, slow and bright, and he shut his eyes.

"There," I said.

"That's mine."

"Yes."

"Say it."

"It's yours," Torin said roughly.

"It was always yours."

I climbed into his lap.

I sat with my knees either side of his thighs and kissed him, and I took my time about it.

I bit his lower lip until he groaned, and I drew his head back by the hair to get at his throat.

He tasted of salt and a little of blood.

His hands came up to my hips, and I caught his wrists.

"What did I say?"

"Not to move."

"Put them behind you."

He put them behind him, flat on the quilt, and his arms shook with it.

I reached back and unhooked my bra and let it fall.

His eyes went to my breasts and stayed.

"Tell me what you want," I said.

"Your mouth on me," he said.

"Where?"

"My cock. Please."

"Good."

I slid off his lap onto my knees.
