Silvio pulled a crate under the light and sat down on it.
Six of his men stood around us in a loose ring.
Two held shotguns, and the rest held pistols they were enjoying.
Marisa sat three feet away, bound to her chair.
Rafe stood in front of me with his tied hands hanging low.
I watched his right elbow.
It moved the width of a finger, back and forth, and I looked at Silvio's face instead.
"You came," Silvio said. "That's the part I wasn't sure of. I thought you'd send the dog with a note."
"You asked nicely."
"I did."
"Your man at the cabin said my father gave you the address."
"Oh, that." He waved his gauzed hand. "That was a nice touch, wasn't it?"
Marisa made a sound in her throat.
