Chapter 17: A Night In

Joss's POV

"I can carry you up," Abram said at the foot of the iron stairs.

"You can't."

"Watch."

He bent and put one arm behind my knees and the other around my back, and lifted me off the floor.

I yelped and grabbed his neck.

He climbed half a flight with me in his arms before he laughed, set me down, and said, "All right, you can walk the rest."

"I told you."

"You didn't say I'd want to anyway."

My face went hot, and I kept it hot all the way up three flights.

In his apartment he left the lights off, and the window over the bed let in the street, orange and soft.

I stood at the end of the bed in the collar and my bare skin.

I did the thing I had never done in front of a man.

I didn't cover myself.

"Lie down," I said.

His eyebrows rose.

"On your back," I said. "I want to try something."

He undressed and lay down, and watched me climb over him.

I was shaking.

"Joss."

"I'm heavy."

"Good."

"Abram."

"Put all of it on me." His big hands closed around my hips and pulled me down until I straddled his stomach, and he spread his palms wide across my thighs. "I've wanted to feel every pound of you since the night you walked in with those drawings."

"Nobody ever said that."

"Nobody was paying attention."

He ran his hands up my belly and over my breasts, and held them heavy in his palms, and groaned.

"Look at you," he said. "Look at all of this."

I reached down and took him in my hand.
