Chapter 17: The Mooring
The cuddy cabin was six feet wide at the widest, and Torsten filled it.
He sat against the forward bulkhead on the narrow bunk, with his head bent under the low overhead and the lantern swinging above us.
I was in his lap with my knees on either side of his hips and my sweater on the floor.
The mooring line creaked.
The whole boat lifted on a long swell and settled, and I felt it all the way up through him.
"Sunday dusk on the water," Torsten said. "Nobody within half a mile but the gulls."
"You said that about the truck."
"I said it about the porch."
"You say it about everything," I said.
"I mean it about everything."
I laughed into his mouth.
He kissed me slowly, with both hands cupped around my face.
His thumbs were rough on my cheeks, and he tasted of salt and coffee.
I undid his shirt button by button, and he let me.
His head tipped back on the bulkhead, and his eyes were half shut.
The cold air of the cabin touched my bare back.
"You're freezing," he said.
"Then warm me up."
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me flat against his chest.
His skin was hot, and I pressed my breasts to him and sighed.
He ran his hands down my spine, slowly, over the dip at the bottom, and cupped my ass.
"Up," he said.
I rose on my knees.
He undid my jeans and eased them down my thighs.
I had to rock from side to side to get them off over my feet.
I fell against his shoulder laughing.
His head cracked the overhead, and he swore, and I laughed harder.
"This boat was not built for us," I said.
"This boat has never seen so much use."
He stripped his own jeans with a lot of cursing and a good deal of elbow.
Then we were both naked in the swinging yellow light.
I slid down off his lap onto the cabin floor and knelt between his knees.
The deck was cold and ridged under me, and I did not care.
He looked down at me with his lips parted.
"Sue. You'll ruin your knees."
"Then I'll ruin them."
