Raymond Aldous asked me to be in the lobby at nine on Monday morning.
I almost said no.
Then I thought of five years of rooms I'd been told to leave, and I put on my one good black dress and went.
The Aldous Capital lobby on Federal Street had a marble floor and a glass atrium three stories high.
Staff stood along the balcony rails, because the email had said all hands.
Raymond waited at the center of the floor with a single sheet of paper.
Selena stood beside him in cream, her hands folded.
Ephraim stayed across the street in the gray car.
I had asked him to, and he had not argued.
At five past nine, the revolving door turned.
Lawson came through in his camel coat, carrying a coffee, with the easy walk of a man who owned the building.
He crossed to the turnstile and touched his badge to the reader.
The light blinked red.
He touched it again.
