Chapter 18: The Leak
I called Kath back from the top of the stairs.
She picked up before it rang.
"I'm so sorry," she said. "Lindy, I'm so sorry."
"Tell me."
"I filed at nine. Everything I had. Every retention-hold ticket I was ever cc'd on, two years of them, in Tom's words."
"Those were sent to you."
"They were sent to me. They're mine. That's the law." She was walking fast somewhere, breathing hard. "It was supposed to be sealed. It was on Hush's comms account by ten fifteen."
"How?"
"I don't know. Somebody in that office has a friend in Tom's. It doesn't matter."
"What does it say? The story."
She read it to me.
The company said the complaint contained "the stolen private data of Hush members."
The company said it had been "taken from our systems by a former engineer, Lindy Hartigan, and passed to an accomplice."
The company said it would "pursue every remedy."
"One of the tickets has user numbers in it," Kath said. "Just numbers. No names. Tom pasted them into a complaint thread himself. They're saying that's the data."
