Chapter 22: A Date He Chose

Tate's POV

"I want you in the passenger seat, and I want the radio on," I said.

I said it before Becca could offer to bring anything.

She stood at the truck door in her red shirt and looked at me.

"That's a lot of wants," she said.

"I've been saving them."

I had planned the date for four days and written nothing down.

Every list I'd ever made had somebody else's name on it.

The restaurant was forty minutes away, in a town where nobody knew my truck.

I had picked it for exactly that reason.

I left my hat on the dashboard, and Becca noticed before she buckled her seat belt.

"It'll sulk," she said.

"It can sulk. I'd like to see you without a brim in the way."

Since the dinner, the pie-tin man had waved at me twice.

The bridge-game woman had sent over a casserole with no list attached.

I had expected the town to stop claiming me.

Nobody had stopped waving.
