Chapter 7: Fever Night
Yuheng crossed the room in three strides and went down on one knee.
He put the back of his hand to Mingzhou's forehead.
"A hundred and two," he said. "At least."
"It's only the eleventh day."
"It is. You're early." Yuheng's jaw tightened. "Why are you early?"
"I don't know."
Mingzhou's teeth were chattering.
The fever had a grip on his bones now.
Every inch of his skin felt too small for him, and the scent coming off the man in front of him made his mouth fill with water.
He hated that.
He hated it, and he leaned into the hand on his forehead anyway.
"Something upset you," Yuheng said.
"No," Mingzhou said.
"You went to the hall."
"Ou Jin told you."
"Ou Jin tells me everything he thinks I should hear." Yuheng slid a hand under his arm. "Up. Come on."
He lifted Mingzhou onto the bed and laid him back against the pillows.
Then he stood and began undoing his own cuffs.
"What are you doing?" Mingzhou asked.
"What do you think?"
"I haven't said yes."
The cuff stopped halfway.
Yuheng looked at him.
It wasn't the look from the sofa, or from the piano.
It was patient, and a little unsteady.
"No," Yuheng said. "You haven't."
"You always just..."
"I know what I did."
Mingzhou stared up at him.
His body was begging. Every nerve in him was bright and shaking and wanted, and his cock was hard against the sheet through his trousers.
He could ride out the fever alone if he had to.
