Chapter 16: Tonight It's Me

Mallory's POV

We didn't talk on the ride back.

I rode behind him with my hand on the sparrow at my throat.

I watched his taillight the whole way.

At the garage he cut the engine and sat there with his hands on the bars.

"I'm still angry," I said from the doorway of the loft.

"I know."

"You let me marry him."

"I know that too."

"Tonight you said it in front of everyone, and I wanted to hold you."

He turned his head, slowly.

"You can be as angry as you want."

I went up the stairs, and I didn't tell him to follow, and he followed.

At the top I took the loft key off the nail by the door and put it in my own pocket.

"The week's over," I said. "I'm keeping this."

"It's your key."

"Then lock the door."

He locked it.

The bolt turned, and he stood with his back to the wood.

I crossed the floor and took his vest off his shoulders.

I let it fall.

I unbuttoned his work shirt slowly, because I wanted to see him.

The scar on his shoulder, the old one, and the newer cut along his ribs from Gage's man.

I pressed my mouth to the new one, and he drew in a hard breath through his teeth.

"Mallory."

"Don't talk," I said. "Last time you did the touching. Tonight it's me."

I pushed him back against the door.

He let me.

I could see what that cost him.

He had held still for three years and never once taken.

I was not going to let him hold still now.

I put my hands on his belt and opened it.

His cock was already hard against the denim, and when I freed it, his head fell back against the wood.

"Look at me," I said.

He looked.

I took him in my hand, all the length of him, and he said a word I'd never heard him say.

I went down on my knees on the boards in front of him.
