Chapter 17: The Cup of Kinship

"You're supposed to be asleep," I said.

"I slept all day." Cade lay on his back in the dark with one arm behind his head. "I'm sick of it."

I stood at the end of the bed in my shift.

Tomorrow night the Queen would put a cup in my hands, and I didn't know yet what would be in it.

"Come here," he said.

I climbed onto the quilt on my knees and straddled his hips.

His hands settled on my thighs, warm and dry, and the fever was gone from them.

"Are you strong enough?" I asked.

"Find out."

I pulled my shift over my head and dropped it on the floor.

He looked at me for a long moment, and his cock hardened against my wet pussy through the linen of his breeches.

I wasn't ready to be gentle.

I undid his laces and freed him, thick and heavy, and took him in my left hand.

"Imogen." His head went back on the pillow. "Fuck."

I rubbed the head through my own wetness, slow, until his hips jerked up toward me.

"Say what you want."

"I want to be inside you."

"Ask properly."

He gave a short, ragged laugh.

"Let me fuck you, wife. Let me feel you come on my cock."

I sank down on him in one long slide.

He was so deep that I cried out, and he gripped my hips and held me there, filled and shaking.

"Move," he said hoarsely.

I rocked on him slowly at first, my hands flat on his chest, feeling his heart pound under my palm.
