He Slept With My Roommate, So I Moved In With the Hockey Captain novel · Chapter 6 of 32

Chapter 6: Wet

The water came down in a sheet and did not stop.

"Main shutoff!" Brody shouted. "It's in the basement!"

He grabbed my hand with his good one, and we ran.

The basement was low and gray, with a concrete floor and an old tiled shower stall in the corner where the guys rinsed off after lifting.

A plastic curtain hung in front of it.

The shutoff valve sat on the wall beside the stall, rusted to a lump, behind the water heater.

I had a white button shirt on that I'd put on for studying.

It was soaked through to my skin before I reached the bottom step.

"It's stuck," I said, and threw my weight on the wheel.

It didn't move.

Brody reached around me with his left arm and put his hand over mine.

"Together. On three."

"One."

"Two."

I felt his chest against my back, hot through the wet cotton.

"Three!"

The wheel gave a shriek and turned, and the rushing sound overhead cut off.

Water dripped from the pipes, and then it was quiet.

We were both breathing hard.

He didn't let go.

I was backed against the edge of the shower stall, with the curtain at my shoulder and his arm still braced beside my head.

He had taken his taped shoulder out of the line of fire, and he was dripping onto the floor with nothing on above his waist except the tape I'd put there.

His towel from the kitchen hung low at his hips.

I don't know when he'd grabbed it.
