Chapter 10: Fireworks
The first firework went up over Lakeway just as I pulled his shirt off over his head.
It opened gold across the water, and light ran over his chest and the long white scar on his ribs.
"Ms. Wehmeyer," Emilio said.
"Don't," I said.
"Mr. Cavazos, then," he said. "Whichever you want me to be."
"Quiet," I said.
The boat rocked at its anchor in a dark cove off Lake Travis.
It belonged to his cousin, a runabout with a padded bench across the stern.
No other boat lay within a quarter mile.
The whole lake was blowing up in color around us, and the sound came a second late.
I stood in front of him on the deck in my bathing suit with the straps already down.
"Take it off me," I said.
He untied the back of it with slow, careful fingers.
It dropped to the deck, and I stood naked in the red light of a shell going off over the water.
His breath went out of him.
He stepped toward me, and I put a hand flat on his chest.
"Not yet," I said. "Hands behind your back."
He clasped them there and stood still.
I walked around him slowly, and the shells lit him in red and blue and white.
I dragged my nails across his shoulder blades, and he shivered.
I pressed my mouth to the nape of his neck, and then I bit him, not gently.
"Greta," he said, low.
"Mr. Cavazos."
I came around to the front again and ran my palm down his stomach and over the ridge of his hip.
His trunks were tented, and I cupped him through the wet cloth.
He hissed.
"Look at you," I said. "Standing in the dark, taking orders."
"Only yours."
"Good."
I kissed him then, long and deep, with my breasts crushed against his chest and my hand still wrapped around him.
His hands stayed behind his back. I could feel what it cost him.
