Chapter 38: Husband

The penthouse door shut behind them, and Jude heard the whole party go quiet.

Rose petals lay across the floor in a path someone had measured.

There was a bottle of sparkling cider on ice, because July knew them.

Beside it sat a card in her round hand that said Do NOT tell me about it.

Ken read the card and put it face down.

"She's thought of everything."

"She's thought of the sheets," Jude said, looking past him at the bed.

They were white, and heavy, and turned down at the corner.

Ken turned him around by the shoulders and unbuttoned the groom's jacket from behind, slowly, one button at a time.

"Husband," he said into Jude's neck.

"You keep saying that."

"I'm going to say it all night."

The jacket dropped, and then the shirt.

Ken's palms spread wide across Jude's stomach, just as they had on the first night.

Jude leaned back into his chest.

He could feel the ring on Ken's hand against his skin.

The old gold on his own finger was warm from the dancing.

He turned in Ken's arms and kissed him.

It was open and unhurried, with the taste of cake in it.

Jude's hands pulled at Ken's collar until the studs came loose and rolled away under the dresser.

"Leave them," Ken said.

"I wasn't going to look."

Ken's shirt went the same way, and then his belt.

Jude took his time on the zipper and pushed his trousers down his thighs.

Ken's cock was already hard, thick and flushed, and it jumped when Jude wrapped his fist around it.

"Fuck," Ken said, through his teeth. "Slow down."

"No."

"Jude."

"We have all night."

Jude stroked him, once, twice, and thumbed the wet from the head.

"I want you to say it again."

"Husband."

"Not that."

Ken's eyes opened, gray and dark.

"Mine," he said.

Jude's knees went, and Ken caught him, and lifted him onto the bed with the sheets cool at his back.

He knelt over him, naked, and for a moment he only looked.
