Chapter 11: Mark Me

"Higher," Linus said. "Here. Where he'll see it."

He tilted his head back against the glass wall of the penthouse, with the whole dark harbor behind him.

He was naked.

Leandros stood pressed against him, still in his shirt, with his mouth on the side of Linus's throat and his teeth against the skin.

He had marked Linus's shoulder, and his chest, and a long purple line along the hip.

He had never once marked his neck.

"No," Leandros said.

"Why not?"

"I told you. Never above the collar," Leandros said.

"Why?"

"Because a mark above the collar is something everyone can read." His voice was rough and slow. "I don't give people that."

"Tomorrow I'm going to sit at your uncle's table."

"I know," Leandros said.

"Tomorrow he's going to look at me, and I want him to see."

"See what?"

"Whose I am," Linus said.

Leandros went rigid against him.

He had both hands on the glass on either side of Linus's head, and the knuckles were pale.

"You don't know what you're asking."

"Then tell me," Linus said.

"I can't."

"Why can't you ever..."

"Linus," Leandros said.

"Everyone looks at me like I'm for sale," Linus said, and his voice shook. "Griffin, the label, the men in your hall. Your uncle, with his soft hands. I'm tired of it. I want to walk in there with your mark on me and have them know I'm not."
