Ethan took the phone out of my hand in the dark.
He laughed once, low and ugly, with no fun in it at all.
"Gotcha," he said.
He sat up and switched on the lamp on the floor.
"Take a screenshot. Send it to me. Send it to yourself. Monday you walk it into the board chair's office."
"Monday Margaret will have a story ready."
"Then what?"
I scrolled back through my email until I found it.
A cream card, scanned, sent to every board member and every department chief in March.
The Margaret Ashworth Second Chances Luncheon. Saturday, noon. The Harrington.

"Today," I said, "she's having lunch."
The Harrington's small ballroom held a hundred and twenty people.
It was a quarter the size of the big one.
Round tables of women in spring suits and good hats. A string trio by the windows. A banner over the stage in soft gold script.
