I said yes in the parking lot.

Half the winter crew heard it, and the other half heard it from them, and the man in Tacoma's wife cried into the coat check.

Two months later, I stood in the Program's warehouse in Christchurch with a box cutter.
Same loading door. Same smell of cut grass through it.
The crates were stamped with the Program's own logo now.
I opened every one of them myself.
Epinephrine. Twenty boxes.
I ran my thumbnail along the edge of the top label.
There was nothing to peel.
The date was printed right in the cardboard, three years out.
On the clipboard by the door was the certification for the station kits.
I read every line.
Then I signed it at the bottom.
Thea Bevan, Medical Director.
Gwen took the clipboard out of my hands.
"You read it twice," she said.
"Three times."
"Nerd." She hugged me hard. "Go. Winter. Get married. Call me on the sky thing."
"It's a radio."
"I know what it is. I just like making him explain it."
