Chapter 7: The Roof
The roof door banged shut behind us, and I had him against it before the cold reached my skin.
It was midnight on Wednesday.
Across the black water the Domino sign burned red.
The night nurse was downstairs with Hugh and her crossword.
The baby monitor was in Nikos's coat pocket, with the volume turned down to a whisper.
"You're freezing," Nikos said into my hair.
"Then warm me up."
He opened his heavy coat and pulled me inside it, against his chest.
He wrapped both arms around me.
I was in a sweater and leggings, and his hands were already under the sweater.
They spread across my bare back, so wide they covered it from shoulder to waist.
I tipped my head back and he kissed me, hard and hungry, his tongue sliding against mine.
I pulled at his belt through the open coat.
He caught my wrists in one hand and held them against his chest.
"Not yet," he said.
"I've waited since Monday."
"So have I. I want to do this properly."
"Properly" was a word I had not expected from him.
He turned us, still wrapped in the coat.
He walked me three steps to the low brick parapet that ran around the roof.
The wall came to just above my hips.
He turned me to face the water.
The sign blazed.
He stood close behind me with his chest against my back, and the coat closed around the two of us.
"Hands on the wall," he said in my ear.
I put them there.
The brick was cold and rough under my palms.
His hands slid down my sides to the waist of my leggings.
He drew them and my underwear down my hips in one slow pull.
The cold air hit my skin, and I gasped.
His palm followed it, warm and broad over the curve of my ass, and then he squeezed.
I pushed back into his hand.
"Look at you," he said, low. "You're so small, and you're so brave."
"Nikos," I said.
"Say it again."
"Nikos. Please."
His fingers slid between my legs from behind and found me already slick.
He drew them up over my clit in a long, firm stroke, and my head fell forward.
"You're soaked," he said, rough.
"You made me that way."
