Chapter 15: Pay Me to Leave
Katrina's POV
Dane read the emergency order aloud to me in the kitchen, standing up, and when he got to the words "a stranger in the child's bedroom hall" he stopped and put the paper down.
"That's you," he said.
"I know it's me."
"Cody's lawyer never met you.
"Somebody told him what the hall looks like."
I leaned on the counter with my arms crossed, in the jeans and the shirt I had pulled on in his room.
My hair was still tangled from his pillow.
"Brady told him," I said.
"The camera was pointed at your hall for two weeks.
"It watched me walk to Lottie's door at night."
"And it watched me sit outside it."
"It watched you sit outside it," I said.
"So that's three nannies, and a bachelor who can't sleep, and the new girl who is not even a trained nanny, who is living in the house of a man who is her boss, and I'm betting the lawyer didn't leave out the last part."
Dane's face went flat.
"He has no proof of that."
"He has a green light," I said.
"It could be more than that."
I had been thinking about it since he came downstairs with the envelope in his hand and his face the color of paper.
I had not liked any of the thoughts.
The lawyer had called while I was in the shower, and Dane told me the gist.
The judge would take up the emergency request on Friday, in chambers, without a hearing.
If the judge saw a household in turmoil, Lottie went to her father's cousin's house in Boerne until July tenth.
