The hall was lit with a hundred candles, and every wolf on the mountain stood around its walls.

I walked down the long floor in the green dress with my hair loose and wildflowers from the river clearing pinned over my ear.

Then the pack lifted their heads, and the howl came down from the rafters.
It was two hundred voices, deep and wild and glad.
It rang the glass in the windows.
It rang in my ribs.
I laughed and was crying, and Tavish scooped me up in his arms in front of everyone and carried me out.
He took the stairs three at a time.
At the top, he kicked the door open, and pushed it shut with his shoulder, and I was against it.
His mouth came down on mine, hungry and certain.
I got my hands under his jacket and tore it off him, and he laughed into my mouth.
