Chapter 11: Her Terms

Rhett did not wait to be told twice.

He walked back through the broken gate holding his bleeding hand, and Declan's Beta walked beside him all the way to the car.

I watched the taillights until they were gone.

Then my knees gave out.

Declan caught me before I hit the ground.

"I've got you," he said.

"I'm fine."

"You're shaking."

"I'm furious. It's different."

I heard the door open.

"Freja?"

"Don't go."

He stood in the doorway with his coat off and his sleeves pushed up.

He looked at me through the glass.

I opened the shower door.

"Come here."

He took off his shirt, and his belt, and stepped in.

The water soaked him through his trousers in a second.

He put both hands on my waist and looked down at me.
