Chapter 21: Studio Floor
The control room was in the lodge cellar, behind a steel door marked STUDIO FLOOR.
Imogen took the quad around the back of the kitchen and killed the engine.
Rook, my mother and four Ironwood guards followed in a truck.
"The door has a keypad," Imogen whispered. "Delphine changes the code every day."
"I know it because I'm the one she sends to fetch her coffee."
She tapped six digits.
The lock clicked.
We went in together.
The room was long and dark and cold, lit by a wall of monitors.
Every screen showed a different corner of the lodge, the garden, the hall, the Well.
Ten people sat in rows at consoles with headsets on.
They turned as one, and the nearest reached for a button.
"Don't," said Rook.
He didn't raise his voice.
He only let his Alpha power spread through the room, slow and heavy, until the nearest technician took her hand away.
"We're not here to hurt anyone," I said. "We're here to put something on air."
