Wurstfest in New Braunfels is a week of sausage, beer and polka, and on its second Saturday the beer hall was packed to the rafters.

The band wore lederhosen and played an accordion, a tuba and a clarinet, and the whole hall stamped along.

My mother had saved a long table near the dance floor for both families.
