Chapter 18: Interview Room

The room at the Registry detention annex had a table, two chairs, a camera in the corner, and no window.

They left Eun-ho there for five hours.

At two in the afternoon, the door opened and Ha Jung-gook came in alone, carrying his own tea in a thermos.

He sat down across from Eun-ho.

"Secretary Moon."

"Vice Chairman."

"You look tired."

"I've been busy."

Jung-gook smiled.

He unscrewed the thermos and poured a cup and set it between them, though neither of them touched it.

"I'll tell you what's going to happen," he said. "In the morning there is a hearing."

"The magistrate will look at a forged certificate, six years of illegal medication, and an unregistered omega on the floor of a major company."

"The sentence for that is three years."

"I'm aware."

"The magistrate would be willing to look kindly on a young man who was led astray."

He took a paper from his breast pocket, unfolded it, and slid it toward Eun-ho with the gold pen on top.

"A statement. That Ha Si-wan learned what you were three years ago, and exempted the floor to conceal you."

"That he threatened to expose you unless you stayed."

"He didn't threaten me."

"The statement doesn't say it was true."

Eun-ho looked at the paper.

He looked at the pen.
