Chapter 25: Kneel
I was too far away.
I knew it the second I moved. Too much snow lay between me and Glory, and Colt's wolf was already in the air.
Glory didn't run.
She threw her father's boot at it.
Then something pale hit the dark wolf from the side so hard I heard the breath leave it.
Gunnar had shifted mid-stride. His shirt was still falling in pieces behind him.
The two wolves rolled across the Ring in a spray of snow and torchlight.
I grabbed Glory by her hoodie and hauled her backward over the rope.
Fern caught us both.
The dark wolf came up snarling and went for Gunnar's foreleg.
Gunnar let it.
Then he twisted, put his whole weight down, and drove Colt flat into the snow.
One huge paw on his shoulders. Gold eyes an inch from his ear.
He didn't bite.
He just held him there, until the pup understands it isn't going to win.
The dark wolf thrashed. Kicked. Snapped at nothing.
Gunnar didn't move.
The whole flat watched an Alpha try to stand up and fail.
Then the dark wolf went still.
