Sunny's POV
Lasse told me about the lot at noon, over a cup of coffee, with a receipt from the lumber yard folded in his shirt pocket.
He told me about the twelve thousand dollars too.
He stood by the stove, and said it in order, and did not soften any of it.
I listened with both hands wrapped around the mug.
"He told you he took my money," I said.
"He did," Lasse said.
"And he told you his father is buying the ground under my house."
"He's already bought the ground. In November he turns the whole shore into a marina."
I put the mug down.
"All right," I said.
"That's it?"
"It's all right because I know now," I said. "I've had three weeks of not knowing what they'd do next. I'd rather know."
He looked at me for a long moment, and then he came around the stove and kissed my forehead.
