Bryn's POV
I felt him go still under me.
The moon had moved and lay across his chest in a bar of white.
"Who told you?" he said.
"Nobody. A woman on East Sixth sent me a message. She said you'd been in her bar."
"She did," he said.
"You didn't mention it."
"No."
"We have a term, Jude," I said.
"I know." He pushed himself up against the headboard, and I slid off him and sat beside him with the sheet around me. "I went to see Wendell. The morning after the parade. I didn't tell you, because I wanted to know what I was going to say first."
"What did you say?"
"I told him that Dad had offered him the seat back in November. That Dad wants him home for the church thing," he said.
"I know that."
"I told him to stay in Austin. I told him not to come back in October and not to come near you."
I stared at him.
"You told him that."
"Yes," he said.
"You went ninety miles and told your brother to stay away from me."
