Chapter 12: Hamish Is in the Box

He didn't move for one full second.

Then his good hand came up and fisted in my hair, and he kissed me back with everything he had.

It wasn't polite.

His mouth was hot and hard on mine, and he made a low sound in his throat when I opened for him.

I pulled him down the porch steps by his coat, and then backward up them, until my spine hit the front door.

"Marlo," he said against my mouth. "Marlo."

"Inside."

"Terms."

"I'm breaking them," I said. "Sue me."

The key shook in the lock.

He took it from me, and got the door open with his scarred hand, and we fell through it into the dark hall.

He kicked the door shut.

He had me against the wall before the lock clicked.

His mouth went to my jaw and then my throat, where the pulse jumped, and I heard myself groan.

I had not been touched in three years.

I had not known how much I could stand to want until his hands were on me.

I shoved his coat off his shoulders, and he let it fall.

I pulled his shirt out of his belt and got my palms flat on his stomach.

He was hard muscle, warm and ridged, and he shuddered all the way down.

"God," he said, in a cracked voice. "Do that again."

I did it again.

He found the zipper at the back of my dress and drew it down slowly, with the knuckles of his burned hand brushing each vertebra, and I arched into the wall.
