Chapter 12: Created March 11
The shower in our room at the inn was a stone cell with a rain head the size of a dinner plate.
The water ran hot from the same spring as the pool.
I turned it on at seven on Friday morning and stood under it with my eyes closed.
The door opened.
"I'm not supposed to come in," Brennan said.
"Who told you that?"
"I'm checking," he said.
"Come in."
He came in, naked and half asleep, with his dark hair flat on one side, and stepped under the spray behind me.
His arms went around my waist, and his mouth landed on my wet shoulder, and I leaned back into him.
"You're up early," he said.
"I had an idea."
"Tell me."
I reached out through the steam to the little shelf by the soap, where I had set my travel bag.
I took out something small and smooth and purple.
His eyebrows went up.
"You packed that for a honeymoon," he said.
"I packed it for a honeymoon with Todd. I'm going to use it on one with you."
He laughed, a short helpless laugh against my neck, and then the laugh stopped.
"Show me," he said.
I turned in his arms and pressed my back to the cold tile.
The water ran over his shoulders and down his chest.
