Chapter 7: The Heat Comes Early

"You smell like..." Torin said again in the dark, and his voice broke in half.

"Say it."

"Like the only thing I've ever wanted that I was told I couldn't have."

I sat there on the crate and couldn't make a sound.

Then my wolf lifted her head, and heat rolled down my spine and settled low in my belly.

I gasped.

"What is that?" I whispered.

"The heat." He sounded wrecked. "Two mates who've been fighting the bond, and a locked room. It was always going to come."

"You said it would take weeks."

"I said a lot of things."

He was breathing hard in the dark, close enough that I could feel him through the air between us.

My skin was too tight. My shirt was too heavy. Every nerve I had was pointing at him.

"Torin," I said.

"I know."

"Say my name again."

"Linnea."

It was a low rough sound, and I felt it in my knees.

I put my palm flat on his chest. His heart was slamming under it.

"Term two," he said, and his voice shook. "I'm breaking it."

"Then break it."

He kissed me.

It wasn't careful. It was every day of the last week at once.

His right hand tangled in my hair and pulled my head back, and his mouth came down hard and hot on mine.

I opened to him at once.

He tasted like smoke and snow, and he groaned into my mouth when I sucked at his tongue.
