Chapter 12: Her Wolf Is Asking

Briony's POV

"Go to the Hartwell wolves," I told my brother. "Wake every one of them. I want them at the fence line by dawn."

"Bri, we have to go now."

"If we go now, Rafe puts a knife to his throat, and we lose him."

Corbin's face crumpled.

"Dawn," I said. "Not a minute before."

He ran.

I shut the cabin door and leaned my back against it.

Ewan stood in the middle of the floor with his hands hanging at his sides.

Neither of us said anything.

My wolf was pacing in my chest, fast and hot, and she was not going to be quiet until dawn.

"Briony," he said. "Your wolf is..."

"I know what she is."

"If you need to rest..."

"Ewan." I walked across the room to him. "Your wolf's asking."

His breath left him in one rough sound.

I put my palm against his chest and felt his heart slamming under it.

A thin gold shimmer came up through his skin to meet my hand.

"Say it back," I said. "You said you'd wait until she asked."

"She's asking," he said hoarsely.

"Then fuck the rules."

He kissed me so hard I lost my balance.

We got to the bed somehow.

I pulled his shirt over his head.

I ran my hands down his chest, over a long pale scar under his ribs, and he shuddered.

He found the zipper at the back of my torn black dress and dragged it open.

The ruined fabric slid off my shoulders and fell.

"Look at you," he said, low.

I had never been looked at that way.

I'd been looked at by a man who wanted something out of me, and this was a man who wanted me.

I pushed him down on the mattress, and he let me.

I knelt over him and worked open the button of his jeans.

His cock sprang free, hard and thick and flushed at the tip.

I wrapped my hand around it, and his head went back on the pillow.

"Briony."

"Shh."

I bent and took him in my mouth.

He swore, a long broken string of it, and his hand tightened in my hair.
