Chapter 17: The Ball
Noah held the phone over Damian's face until the light woke him.
Damian squinted at it.
He read it.
Noah watched him read it twice.
"He's bluffing," Damian said.
"About what?"
"He's got nothing. A kiss in a corridor and a towel."
"That's not nothing."
Damian put the phone face down on Noah's chest and closed his eyes.
"Friday," he said. "We'll deal with it Friday."
He didn't say how.
The O-week ball was in the dining hall.
They'd stacked the long tables against the walls and hung fairy lights from the ceiling fans.
There was a DJ on the servery counter and a photo booth by the kitchen door.
Everyone was in hired suits and borrowed dresses.
Bec wore green and her mum's earrings.
Noah wore the one suit he owned, from his cousin's wedding, a bit short in the sleeves.
"You look like a funeral director," Bec said.
