Chapter 12: Tybee Island

The beach house on Tybee Island stood on stilts, with a deck that ran the whole length of the ocean side and no neighbors for a mile.

The tide was coming in.

I could hear it from the lounge chair, a slow rush and drag against the dark.

I was naked under a quilt he'd pulled off the sofa, with my hair damp from the outdoor shower and the stars thick overhead.

Auden stood at the rail in a pair of loose linen pants and no shirt.

He had his back to me, broad and brown in the starlight.

He was looking at the black water.

"Come here," I said.

He turned.

"You've been standing there for ten minutes."

"I'm thinking."

"About what?"

"About how many ways there are to do this. And how many I've done, and how none of them felt like this."

My stomach turned over.

"Auden."

"I know." He came to the chair and knelt beside it. "I'm not saying anything clever. I'm just saying I want you."

"Then take me."

"Out here?"

"Nobody for a mile. You said."

He smiled slowly.

He stood and pushed the linen pants down, kicked them off, and the starlight caught his cock, heavy and risen.

I threw the quilt off.

The night air was cool and salt-damp on my skin, and my nipples tightened.

He sat down on the end of the lounge, long legs out, and held out his hand.
